Kortrijk, Belgium, 10 October 2007. Barco, a global leader in visualization technology is proud to announce that its extreme venue projector XLM HD30 was selected for use at the opening gala of the Ormen Lange gas field at the Aker Stadium on 6 October in Molde, Norway. The opening gala for the Ormen Lange gasfield was described as “the largest multimedia event ever”, in Norwegian papers. The event came complete with surround sound, a forest of skytrackers, and a 360 degree projection, which measured almost 5,000 square meters in size.

Norway’s King Harald officiated at the opening ceremony at Ormen Lange’s land-based facility at Nyhamna in Aukra municipality and the ceremony was transmitted live to the Aker stadium. After the “official opening” of the gas field, the Norwegian band Röyksopp, singer Ane Brun and 350 young chorus singers provided the entertainment for the 12,000 crowd that where present. Both the official and entertainment parts of the event where shown on the 360-degree screen that surrounded the entire public stand in the stadium.
Barco rental partner Mediateknikk, the technical provider for the event, created the massive 380 meter long by 12 meter high projection screen using a total of sixteen Barco XLM HD30 projectors, producing a total of 480.000 lumens.
The XLM HD30 is ideally suited to ultra wide-screen and HD projections. Boosting an incredible light output of 30,000 center lumens, the XLM HD30 is the new standard for high brightness projection on the market today. Delivering native 2048 x 1080 resolution (DC2K) and featuring a fully sealed DMD engine, the XLM HD30 is build to work around the clock, making it ideal for use in the demanding rental & staging and large events markets.
Vegar Strandskogen, director of the board at Mediateknikk, says “Mediateknikk in cooperation with Gyro Event is proud to have delivered recording as well as playback equipment for the 360 degree projection at Aker Stadium in Molde. We are very thankful for the great support we received from the Barco organization and the technical team on site.”

The Capsuli is a rechargeable solar powered LED emergency light kit that’s small enough to be stored while powerful enough to emit light from the palm of your hand. As small as it is, this thing is bright. Each capsule docks onto a pad embedded with solar cells. You activate the light by twisting the capsule. It’s just a concept for now so technical specifications aren’t available but the idea is sound. In fact, I think cities should be giving citizens basic emergency supply kits - each one should include something like the Capsuli.

Today at NAB 2007, AMX® unveiled the industry’s first camera controller with widescreen video preview. The next-generation NXP-PLV Modero PosiTrack Pilot Camera Controller adds Ethernet connectivity and a 7” Modero® Widescreen Touch Panel, making it ideal for any live or recorded broadcast event, including religious services; local, state and federal government proceedings; classroom lectures and complex video conferences. AMX is demonstrating the NXP-PLV in its booth, C11109, April 16 – 19.
Using the graphical interface on the NXP-PLV’s integrated Modero Widescreen Touch Panel, the operator can select cameras, visually track and change their movement, store and recall presets and adjust each camera’s settings. The controller also includes a proportional pan/tilt/zoom joystick and controls for focus, iris and speed. With the right hand on the soft wrist pad, the operator can also intuitively guide the camera and twist the joystick to zoom the lens in and out. Simultaneously, a quick spin of the side-mounted control knobs fine-tunes focus, iris and speed.
The NXP-PLV supports up to six cameras and is an ideal controller for AMX’s Ethernet-based PTE-300 PosiTrack Pan/Tilt Head. It will be available within 90 days.
